@jonn Oh, I understand now.
Yeah, I run it on Linux and OSX.
Manjaro and Pop!_OS.
I think it's very widely ported now. I know you can run it on Nintendo DS and I think even GBA.
There's a hosted web version like a "playground" type of thing, too.

@jonn Sorry, I'm confused by the question.
Just to build context here:
I'm referring to uxntal: wiki.xxiivv.com/site/uxntal.ht
It's only use is for programming the Varvara virtual computer: wiki.xxiivv.com/site/varvara.h

I'm just going through tutorials; so not using it for anything practical yet.

I don't know what to think about it, but I've been attempting to find a fellow enthusiasting beginner to race against in Discord communities sized in tens of thousands. I ended up finding such person on mastodon by reading a relevant Gemini post.

Really unsure if there's a trend here, but perhaps it's because people in the small Internet tend to be more involved with... ...stuff?

I tried to buy it but failed, because there's no way to. Turned out maintenance of RBR is a community effort. Everything is opensource if you disassemble hard enough. rallysimfans.hu/

The cognitive approach that allowed me to learn computing is the same approach that prevents me from having savings.

It is "put yourself into a situation where success is the only way out".

@groovestomp oh and also, it only applies to FWD / AWD. I don't know anything about the RWD except that they're really unforgiving. :)

@groovestomp ...slow down and position the car well for the exit. Pretty sure that nothing good will happen if you try this in a grippy turn :D

Show thread

@groovestomp yea, I can't find it, but the idea is that if you initiate a drift, countersteer and don't apply input, you'll keep going with a speed similar to your speed of approach, whereas if you start sliding and as you do that, you keep pointing into the apex (without / with less countersteer), you'll slow down more and make the rear of the car draw a wider arc than the front. Now if you're on gravel, while doing so you'll keep getting pushed forward which can help...

@groovestomp this is one way to think about going sideways into a turn. I'm searching for a diagram for ‘drift-braking' I mentioned...

Remembering all the magical times, all the late night walks in Riga with my TCG buddies. All the cubing after exhausting tournaments.

I wish I still cared about the game.
