There are times when it seems like swallowing your standards and ethics will lead to a greater good longer term. Just do whatever makes the shareholders happy, take your cut, and you will be happy, right?

That is bullshit, and you know it.

Those of us with the skills the make the world better have an obligation to use them that way.

Doing the right thing will rarely make you a billionaire, but it will make you a little prouder of yourself.

That is the only value that counts in the end.

No "IP" that stays locked in a box in the hands of a select few is going to make the world better.

Fuck the VCs. Fuck the shareholders.

@lrvick sad news is that IP that doesn't stay in a box seldom makes the world better even if the product does.

@jonn I don't disagree, and I have put hundreds of open source repos into the world that don't matter to show for it. But we have limited time on this rock.

Energy put into a proprietary project is guaranteed to be of no long term value to society, but working on a FOSS project at least has a non-zero chance.
