@proscience hungary is kinda smol in terms of gdp and corrupt as fuck. If #EU had spine, the fuckers would have bullied.
Also, remember – hungary DOES NOT QUALIFY FOR EU MEMBERSHIP as it stands. So a simple fucking compliance accreditation system once every 4 years would have ensured that clownish shit faced bullshit that is going on for since 2022 would never happen.
Re: your 1st paragraph: Agreed, it's inexcusable that the Commission didn't follow through Article 7.
Re: your 2nd paragraph: Wishful thinking since sth like this must be codified in law which it is not and has no chance to pass. Obviously, that was a mistake but when the treaty texts were written, they thought it's inconceivable.
@proscience I'm sorry for my language btw. It is wishful thinking, but so was Scandinavian NATO membership and Baltic state independence. Thing is that #hungary and #slovakia and, to a lesser degree, #germany form an ongoing security threat to #Europe, even if we set aside morality. So this will have to be addressed anyway. The only question is before or after #ww3.

Finland and Sweden were free in their decision to join NATO or stay out.
Baltic independence was on the table as soon as the Warsaw pact and USSR crumbled.
That's not a comparable situation here. Not at all.
