Starting the #SimRacing #RallyAzores after lunch.
Drove a shake-down and it didn't go too well. Spent a minute in a [beautifully-made ditch].
The car is in one piece, which is matters a lot.
The goal is, as usual, to survive the rally. It's just under 50km, so shouldn't be too hard.
I survived the rally... Currently uploading first person video.
Drove as a tourist, but ok.
@alesgenova we need to edit last stage's notes. All the "jumps" should be "slowing"! There aren't any jumps... The whole stage is a slow grind-fest.
Do you want me to edit or will you manage yourself? If you will, pls send me your Github username so that I can give you push rights to the repository with the notes.
@jonn I looked at the YouTube replay, congrats on surviving the whole rally!
I loved that you drove it in VR, I have an old headset around, should give it a try since RBR doesn't work too well with triple monitors.
I noticed that you used 1st gear a lot more on the slow corners.
Also, I think you deserve a clutch pedal and H shifter to make things even harder on yourself! :D
I'm gonna practice a little more tonight, and then give it a go some time tomorrow during the day
@alesgenova I have a clutch pedal, but I've started following racing after it was largely obsolete. #S2000 cars are, for instance, sequential[1]. That's as far as I'm willing to go :D
But yeah, when I "make it" in life, I'm gonna have a proper rig with a sequential stick and a proper handbrake.
Regarding using 1st... I have no idea how to drive this car or these stages correctly (yet). What I know is that I do crazy things with the gearbox because engine braking in rally cars are pushed these days... But I really should learn how to shift calmly and gently because if I'm to drive a real life rally car some day, I wouldn't want to spend 2-3K pounds on a new gearbox after every outing :D
@alesgenova hah, I just assumed that you can't make sequential work with your setup. Tbh, this car is perfectly moddable to work with petlal shifters (just as #WRC #Rally1 #Hybrid cars are).
It's just a matter of cost-cutting to have a stick vs petals. So yeah, you can just use petals without losing too much immersion / realism with Ford S2000.
@jonn just tried using the sequential stick shifter, it's so much better, I think I improved 10-15s over my previous personal best at Pirka (now 5:25)
Thank you for making me realize before the rally! :)
@alesgenova nice! Gl tomorrow! 🚗 🛣️
@alesgenova btw, check out some masterclass from Evans and Loeb on handbrake turning:
