I remember the days when we'd pay $99 or something for a new #macOS release and I gladly did it because the releases were great.

Nowadays I wait till I'm forced to update because there's nothing new for me except problems. I'd prefer to pay if they did a release of just bugfixes and no new rewrites / useless features.

@nicd I'm yet to switch to mac os. But from an outsider perspective, I don't remember them ever having a smooth dist upgrade.

@jonn There's always been something, sure. But for several releases I've felt that there's nothing new for me to balance those problems. And in Ventura they completely botched the system settings UI so there's another reason to avoid it.

@jonn You must be very young indeed then 🙂

I‘ve been using a number of #Macs since 1992 and _never_ experienced anything but smooth upgrades. Then again, I just may have been very, very lucky…

@1P1sces I'm simply from a poor Latvian family. I've been using an IBM 486 till 2003. My first exposure to was when I started working as a computer programming, around 2008.

@jonn So you’ve probably seen #Windows hell as well. I was just wondering about your outsider perspective on #macOS not ever smoothly upgrading. But perhaps I‘m just misunderstanding your statement… If so, I duly apologise!

@1P1sces oh, absolutely. I dodged ME and stopped using it around XP. I was already observing stuff like Vista fiasco and windows 8 from the sidelines. I am using , and it's a really great OS, but I'm not inclined to switch to . I would say that I dislike dist-upgrades even more, because when they get one wrong they don't fix it for several years until the next upgrade 🙂

@jonn The lasting #Windows chaos is cemented in its detrimental attempt at downward-compatibility even with its pre-NT grandchildren. NT as such has some great potential, but that’s almost completely done in by erratic concepts built around the kernel.

Move to #macOS/#Linux/#BSD! It‘s going to be a revelation. 😀

@1P1sces I started using alongside with when I was 14, then switched to and was using for a while. However, as I switched to running several businesses at a time, I had no time to keep track of incompatibilities especially since the move to is an ongoing mess and I switched to . For big computers, I use primarily to cater for my hobbies, which include .

I don't feel like I'm responsible for fighting or boycotting the companies which don't release titles for , although I'm actively supporting those that do.
