@mwichary I'm digging it.
@tivasyk @EugeneMcParland tfw when khodorkovsky is more ethical than another russian oppositioner.
I'm very glad that I'm not the only person who tears down the posters of commies in #London!
@tivasyk @rada so much zrada! But jokes aside, sexy fighter-bombers, armed with air to air missiles are pretty decent at knocking helis, I hear. Hence the "fighter" part. 🙂
My interpretation is that the pokes right now are to show the West that they (the West) has fucked up by not giving sufficient hardware and setting up Spring/Summer offensive 2024.
There is also still hope of a thrust to Moscow, it's significantly less defended than Zaporizhye.
@hexedpress @enfors sorry again for FUD'ing! Enfors, thanks for forcing me to fact-check myself.
@enfors @hexedpress they have severely limited capacities of bots. But then they turned it around?

So I retract my statement. It seems like there was some expected turbulence and they fixed it (with some community push-back about some issues).
Sorry for confusion, it made me look things up and I kinda like Discord again! :)
@hexedpress past API restriction, before toxic monetisation.
@hexedpress it has, a while ago!
I read a toot (I hate this word) from someone recently exhorting people to “star” more toots, more often. I am not going to do that. In fact, since I’ve mostly moved over to Mastodon, I’ve made it a point NOT to star things unless I really wanted to save them. Instead, if I want to acknowledge something someone posted, I will respond and say so directly. I will not short hand it via the star button. The star button, as the like button, and other similar devices, is a lie.
@wholesomedonut to sum up: it is indeed difficult to functionally talk to moscovites who are, by and large, satisfied with status quo.
@wholesomedonut ... there is only one russian who is publicly and consistently voices and elaborates upon these notions: Dmitrij "KamikadzeDead" Ivanov.
Futhermore, you have to be appreciate that I used to be part of russian activist movements for free russia prior to the start of the war in Ukraine in 2014, I know more russian culture than an average russian townsfolk and write better russian too.
@wholesomedonut nah, in the interest of russian people, russian regions that feed moskovites have to gain independence. The reason why most russians support war is not because they live in great conditions. It's because they're forced into poverty by moscow and developing critical thinking is not only not on the agenda, but is outright impossible. Truly good russians understand that, Siberian intellectuals understand it. Even some liberals understand it, but ...
@wholesomedonut ask them if russia should exist or what do they think about yekaterina shulman. I found that most of them have deeply nested imperialism. You just need to dig enough and, sadly, not much.

Once again, I remind you that KamikadzeDead may be the only actually good russian!
"This is about saving cities. Without commuting office workers, the office buildings go empty, they become worth a fraction of their cost, and retail cannot survive."

God it's depressing that people believe this is the true nature of downtowns.
Cities predate commutes. The hollowed out core that triples in population, swelled to bursting with bored and unhappy suburbanites during work hours, is a modern abomination made possible by cars and structural racism.
What's killing downtowns is that we spent so long on this awful vision of work and spent half a century strangling inner city infrastructure to subsidize incredibly expensive suburban lifestyles.
Want to make downtowns viable again? Convert dead office space to apartments and schools and colleges and other spaces people can work *and* live in.
Good luck with your rezoning applications though.
