@GrimmReality pssst you neither need to be a commie to be for equality, nor a billionaire to be bigoted 😉

@dcoderlt yea, it's like that research from 2018 which decisively proved that...
...alcohol drinks are bad for people.

No shit, Sherlock!

I’m shocked, shocked I say, that what we’ve been saying for years now turned out to be true.

@jakehamilton how do you install plug-ins for that aren't in btw?

I need plug-in because people at work delude themselves that they will manage to keep an up-to-date notion knowledge base, but I'm using , which is a wrapper around , so I'd like to gauge roughly how much time should I allocate to figuring out how to install a plugin.

Very disturbed by an idea in a theogg video today. "The end of frameworks" and new language ideas because it won't immediately be available in the LLMs and therefore feel more difficult to use.

That just feels so gross. Imagine if tech had stopped 10, 20, 30 years ago because magic autocomplete worked sometimes.

It's been a long time since I worked on games, so here is a – use playing cards for hand to hand combat.

This is just a playtest for depth of the mechanics, but I have already worked out combat mechanics for mass combat when 2 characters attack one, the one has to defend only against the biggest attack.

GNU Terry Pratchett. No-one is dead while their name is still spoken.

DOGE is laying off government workers just like Elon did at Twitter -- so if you thought today’s Twitter hack was bad, just wait until the Pentagon starts trending.

Instead of lapping up Jay Graber's nonsense, tech media should ask her some real questions:

Who owns #Bluesky?

Who and in what percentages?

Any outstanding debt or other convertible obligations?

What happened with the Bain Capital funding round announced in early January by Business Insider (businessinsider.com/x-competit) valuing the company at $700M?

Did it close?

If so, how much was invested? Who were the investors?

Now Bluesky's Jay Graber is simply lying.

“If a billionaire came in and bought Bluesky and took it over, or I decided tomorrow to change things in a way that people didn’t really like, then they could fork off and go on to other applications.”

observer.com/2025/03/bluesky-c

Of course, this makes absolutely no sense, but tech media dutifully just prints it.

What does "fork off and go on to other applications" mean?

What is it she is even saying?

Getting really tired of this gaslighting BS.

"Are you always going to wear a mask?"

-I have not gotten a cold in 5 years
-My 88-year-old grandmother will be on maintenance chemo for the rest of her life
-I don't have PTO
-Long COVID is terrifying

I don't wear a mask all the time in public by any means, but I wear it in crowds (today in the theater for sure), on public transit, and anywhere with terrible ventilation. I love my exercise classes and they're very small but there's *no* ventilation and I'm just the weirdo who wears a mask

I work with kids and used to get a cold every month or two. THIS IS BETTER.

Old saying: if it walks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, it's a duck.

Modern corollary: if it goose-steps like a nazi and salutes like a nazi, it's the President of the United States.

Hey #VimWizards,

Is there an easy way to set an option like "cursorline" from the commandline, like vim -o "set cursorline" file.txt?

(I know that's not what -o does, at least in nvim)

#vim #nvim #NeoVim

UPDATE: The wizards have spoken!
vim -c 'set cursorline' file.txt

In addition, it seems that vim -c 5 is equivalent to vim +5, because it's interpreting '5' as a command (:5)
I always love going back and reading the part of the manpage that describes the option once I learn it, because then I learn the lingo and understand things just a tiny bit better.
And yeah, I'm 25 years a vim newbie. XD

@xameer Amazon is a meta-state. Haven't you felt talking to a big tech employee that you live in different countries?
