Remembering the time I was contracted as a security consultant in 2002-ish to review network security, help with documention, and to harden company systems, when I was mansplained about... (wait for it)... security.

So I was sitting at my desk writing documentation in the very open office, when one of the programmers, I guess trying to brag or impress me, sits on the edge of my desk and says, "So, you know, I'm a hacker."

Me, who is loves all things hacking and security related, replies, "Really? That's awesome!"

Him: "Yeah, so a computer hacker is someone who can [blah blah] and ..."

I quickly discover that he has zero clue I am the solo security consultant working at the place, and that I'm an actual hacker.

Me (thinking to myself): Okay, well everyone starts somewhere, and it looks like he the caught the hacker bug— Wait, is he... now explaining what a network is to me?

You must be crazy to work at an early startup. The pressures, uncertainty, and risks don't work out for most.

When I talk to potential hires for Omnigres' core engineering, I overindex on the signs of such craziness.

Ultimately, being crazy is a job requirement for us.

I was just talking to a colleague about the AI bubble. These companies are in so deep they can't tell the truth. They are all lying about the efficacy, costs to consumers and most importantly how & when this tech works or doesn't.

Is there enough money on the line to kill over?

There's likely a trillion bucks of valuations across the industry. Billions in sunk costs, billions in c suite remuneration, billions in VC mgmt costs.

@HistoPol Um, the USSR and now the new entity called the Russian Federation cosplaying an empire has ICBMs in service since the 1960s that could target anywhere since long before this new PR stunt of a missile existed.

RF has failed in Syria, seems to be failing in Georgia, has spent hundred of thousands lives making tiny gains in a war with a country it swore to not invade. Its navy has failed to a country without a navy.

Its economy failed catastrophically after a failed military quagmire in Afghanistan and doing its best to repeat that failure in Ukraine.

That the west is allowing him to play checkers is embarrassing. Even with that he'll be lucky to be alive leading North Korean V2. Sure they can cause a lot of pain and misery along the way but RF is treated like they the USSR at their peak.

I don't pirate content.

I just persistently cache it locally on long term storage media.

You know, to help the streaming services conserve bandwidth and thereby maximise shareholder value.

In fact, they should be paying me.
