Decided to make this wallpaper to remember my short time in the Uni, which ran Ubuntu in 2008 :)

This is sorely lacking now, when electricity is constantly disappearing

There was no electricity again, so I slept. I have to catch energy, sleep when there is none, work when there is. I'm not complaining. The family understands this. They sleep, I work.

I hope to be boosted nonetheless !

(my own personal) #ProTip : Turn off all notifications except for mentions

You don't need to know how many likes/boosts a post has gotten. you don't need a notification every time someone starts following you.

And you can find all that information elsewhere if/when you want it.

Cleaning up your notifications like this will have a huge positive impact on how you interact with this site.

Borogravia's abomination appendices described in chapter two of the Monsterous Regiment is basically the same as russian foreign agent lists.

The fact that it was either inspined by nazi germany or fascist italy makes tells you everything you need to know about russia.

I'm happy to see a re-energizing of the fediverse, but I'll admit to feeling a sense of loss for my past few years of work.

I spent a good chunk of the past five years of trying various approaches to getting my former employer, Condé Nast, to set up a Mastodon-based community for any of its brands (Teen Vogue/Vogue, Bon Appetit, Them., Wired, etc).

It's not an easy problem to say the least, but the zeitgeist has now moved enough that it might actually be possible. Timing is everything, right?

We in the West are obliged to ramp up our support to Ukraine.

I'll post links to the verified civilian infrastructure charities.

In the meantime, we all should donate to savelife.in.ua/

The war is at our doorsteps, and russia, giving up on occupation, started demolishing civilian infrastructure they'll never capture.

Dear so-called “UX” designers, the opposite of “yes” isn’t “not now”, it’s “no.”

Dear #TwitterMigration folks, an important tip on #privacy on the fediverse:

There is none.

This is a public medium; please treat it as such. Just as you have no privacy on Twitter (Elon Musk can read all your DMs), you have no privacy on the instance you’re on (your administrators can read all your posts).

You can set the visibility of a post but that’s a viewing suggestion, not a privacy guarantee.

Think of your posts as postcards, not sealed letters, and you should be fine.

#fediTips

It seems many old friends and people I interacted with somehow find me here by #TwitterMigration tag.

I'm glad that migration to decentralized and ethical alternatives continues.

BTW, there are decentralized alternatives to instagram, reddit, youtube, meetup and other platforms. All those alternatives are federated and can interact with mastodon and each other:

Welcome to #fediverse !

Boosts are welcome.

If you speak russian, check out this segment of a video by one of the very few Russian allies of the free world, Dmitry Ivanov.

Journalist

I quit my job to help save the earth for my kid

Deniers have tried to claim that informing kids about the climate crisis amounts to child abuse. But actual child abuse would be doing nothing to prevent it. So, I did something.

the timing of this influx of new people to the fediverse that is largely self hosted/run by volunteer sysadmins and the looming openssl patch is... interesting... to say the least...

i hate you elon! #mastodon used to be a quiet place, i could work or play with my modest home infra and prepare a blog post all while checking the stream like maybe once or twice a day...

now, today it's like a torrent of new faces and a shower of introductions, no time for serious things anymore =)

p.s. c'mon now, when are you gonna do #facebook?

BTW, @pepicrft, I've noticed that you're continuously building stuff.
I wonder if there's some synergy between your hobby building and our hobby building.
We could book an intro call[1] or exchange some texts, whichever you prefer.
