This #transdayofvisibility I will have you know that my spouse is #trans, my kids are #trans, and I'm not all too cis myself.

One of the damning accusations against commercial social networks is their deleterious effect on our mental health, personal relationships and civic engagement.

They are tools to connect with other people, and yet they drive us apart, and make us miserable.

I believe we have a chance to make use of the fediverse preferable because it makes us happier.

I talked about this at APConf a few years ago.

I have too many jobs to keep up with , but... May I present you, "gamey advantage and preparedness".

It's my 30th birthday tomorrow!

I generally don't like receiving gifts or anything like that, but if you'd like to do something for me, here are a few ideas I'd find meaningful:

1) Contact your representatives to speak out against bills opposing trans rights and healthcare access. You can find the relevant info for your state here: equalityfederation.org/state-l

2) Donate to an abortion fund in a state where abortion access is at risk: abortionfunds.org/funds/

3) Donate to a local bail fund or to support the legal fees for activists in your community. The Atlanta Solidarity Fund is a good example of what I mean: atlsolidarity.org/

If you send me receipts, I'll be matching up to $100 per donation, and $1000 total :)

LLMs seems to be winning by a lot - clearly it's a less obscure acronym than I thought (though a Mastodon audience likely skews these results)

It's not why I asked the question, but this did inspire me to add a new "llms" tag to my blog, simonwillison.net/tags/llms/ - then back-filled the tag to 114 posts

No. #Russia must not compete in the #Olympics. Doesn't matter if their athletes compete as neutrals or not. No. Not until they stop killing people and get the hell out of #Ukraine. The #IOC should f*<k right off.

Sure it's sad if ppl don't get their big chance to compete, but they're not dead. No Russians at the Olympics. Zero. No.

“Among the unexpected sources of support for the magazine was the #fediverse—the collection of decentralized Mastodon servers that soared in popularity following Elon Musk’s acquisition of Twitter. Many comments on the GoFundMe page mention that the donors learned about the Observer through #Mastodon—where the Texas Observer was one of the first journalistic outlets to set up its own server, @jamescanup said.”

They also had lots of genuinely interesting questions about it, to which the honest answers were, mostly, "I can't remember, we just thought of it in the pub and it seemed funny at the time."

This might describe more of my career than I should admit.

Honestly, with all the gameplay and coding imperections, I absolutely love game.

It's a real and emotional version of . It's a loner biker game with the bikes.

I love how Barnes & Noble specifically promoted some of these "banned" books. Every library and bookstore should do this.

Wow. As a kid (and growing up, and now), I thought that Leisure Suit Larry are a mysoginst and sexist series for stupid guys.

Maybe not? Am I going to ever play it thought? Unlikely.

Under the new Restrict Act ("ban TikTok act") VPN users face 20 years in jail and up to $1million fine if they evade US internet censorship.

Compared to this, the great firewall of china looks like a picket fence.
