Stop idolizing Navalny. His rhetoric is undemocratic!🙏🏻 In 2014, Navalny said that if he became president of Russia, he would not return control of Crimea to #Ukraine. “The occupied peninsula is not a sandwich for it to be passed back and forth”, argued Navalny.
There are many issues with him.
Presenting some more #OSE in support of #dungeon23 content, sort of.
Every paranoid wizard should have a potion of refocus in their bag!
Feb 1st supporting #dungeon23 is an #OSE (sorry, mom) spell "Liquid Manipulation".
It was way harder to come up with interesting semantics for it, but actually writing stuff for OSE is so much easier than for #IcyNSR.
#OSR games, as opposed to #NSR games have wordiness in their DNA, and writing wordy texts is a breeze!
Also, don't worry, I remember that I owe January some #dungeon23 content, I'll publish more #IcyNSR backlog soon. If someone wants to run an #IcyNSR session, feel free to reach out to me for all the rule cards in one place and in a hyperlinked format. It's rules-distributed (kinda rules light, but you can hand out the rules on demand to your players, making them the lawyers of some marginal mechanics they asked for to have fun), crunchy, tactical and ready to play.
I'm still alive! I know everyone was super worried. At any rate here is my catch up sphere for the 9 days I've missed of #dungeon23 Behold the Daucus Proletariat Commune!
The seven rooms of this particular sphere! Two remaining neutral rooms, and a new sphere coming!
@mekkaokereke sorry for spamming "cool stories" from Latvia...
As far as confederacy goes, gladly, I'm aware of the context. Believe it or not, some people in Latvia use this flag 🤢 .
I had a big conversation with a game store about it and had the company who licenses the game tournaments there explicitly state their stance on racism to push a decision to not embarrass the store and the community by letting people with this symbol in. I know it's a very small contribution, but yea...
It's hard to cope with the idea that **textbooks** in **States** don't talk about what was different between the southern states and the northern. I mean, it's like American recent history 101, not even 102 😠 .
@mekkaokereke for me, as a Latvian, it is very insightful to follow #BlackHistoryMonth. Thanks for posting this!
I'm ashamed that I didn't know who Édouard de Laboulaye was until today. In school in the 90s the story of the Statue was told in such a way that the fact that it was a gift from France is the punchline.
Not only it is shallow, but also a missed opportunity. In my land slavery was abolished very close to 1865: in 1861. So it's a missed opportunity to talk about the total injustice brought by white civilizations across the world.
Happy #BlackHistoryMonth !
You know the drill by now. I don't like talking about Black history. Americans know Black history. I want to talk about white American history. In other words, racism, and the erasure of both positive achievements of, and injustices suffered by, non-white people. That's what people don't know.
Try this: Ask your white US friends what the statue of liberty celebrates.
Now ask your Black friends. Or French folk of any color.
Here's my #dungeon23 Jan 18th entry. Grapple mechanics made fun in #IcyNSR. No opposed rolls, just difficult martial artist (strength) checks and still a fun and meaninful tactical mini-game! And, in the best tradition of #IcyNSR, some combat moves that are relevant to the rules.
"Iceland ISP free speech" turns up a few:
https://www.orangewebsite.com/
Good for DNS, looks like they do hosting now too:
Thinking further on this, hosting in places like Iceland, Finland, Romania, maybe Bulgaria (still?), etc. can be a way to differentiate your server from others.
"Hosted in Iceland"
A geographically diverse Fediverse increases it's strength.
@jebba thanks, I'll look into it.
I have backups, but they are irregular and if they'd power-off, I'd lose some data.
But idk, I'm pragmatic here. This stuff is a hobby for me, I'm close to set up a cluster and daily backups some day, in the meantime I'll do the cloud thingie.
Can you suggest a nice host where I can easily copy Ubuntu boxes, point my DNS and migrate from a VC provider? I'll look at the Iceland... Thanks for the pointer!
It's a hard problem, in that in the end, you're still on a corporate / military network.
I'm not saying it is a solution, but it may be worth considering hosting in countries like Iceland, that have more protections (see: Icelandic Modern Media Initiative).
No matter what the hardware is, you should still have backups, as they can just power off your server. :)
I don't know Digital Ocean's physical network offhand.
Looking up DigitalOcean, they are publicly traded on the New York Stock Exchange. NYSE:DOCN for search.
The largest institutional investor, located in NYC, has very little about themselves on their website:
Other major investors include the usual Blackrock, Vanguard, JP Morgan Chase, etc.
I'll leave it to you to judge the evilness. ;)
@quadra absolutely stunning work!
@jebba #DigitalOcean was promoted by #mastodon organisation as the place to host. I assume they aren't evil, kinda. The issue with running on real hardware I have is that I lose data at least partially due to hardware failure.
I used to pay #Hostwinds which is a small indie American data center, but here I went with DO.
Do they just upsell #AWS?
@jebba (most of it is cloud storage).
@jebba I really wish more people would reg on my server. I provide the service as is with no guarantees, but I carefully persist data that should be persisted by #ActivityPub. Federation costs me money, not the usage of the server currently, and even hosting a hundred more people wouldn't drive my costs too much up. BTW, I'm paying 30-ish bucks a month for hosting myself.
