@knotfeed I don't always say the words "good russians", but when I do, I mean it.

Starting today, one may formally declare their intent to submit a game to #ifcomp2024

August 1 is the last day one may do so.

Remember, this year the Comp starts at the beginning of September, not October!

Iceland is the only country who, after the 2008 crash, let banks go bust and jailed bankers.

Parliament House, Alþingishúsið, is right next to the central square in Reykjavik - its wall & windows are metres from public space.

The "kitchenware revolution" is now infamous: Protesters brought pots & pans to the square and made a racket right outside parliament.

Icelanders held the rich to account because the literal distance between the people and the government was far smaller.

@mcc I''m sorry that I failed to calibrate my tone! I don't want to be unintentionally obnoxious, especially towards people with whose sentiment I agree. I hope you'll accept my apology!

To put it in a dry / non-aggro form — I think that it's a social contract that when a person uses proprietary software that holds their data, the data is no longer theirs and is at the mercy of said proprietary service. It's bad, obviously, and I wish we would live in a world where cohosting user-generated data would have been trivial (a startup idea?), but it is naive to pretend that corporations are providing free services for anything but marketing purposes.

@ashleygjovik that's an amazing job identifying the issue and following it through. Also a great example of inspection, even despite some corrupt fucks tipping off, doing their job. In soviet or modern russia, or in china, you would disappear for trying to question health effects of factories. Very nice read, but I'm super sad that you had to go through this :x

🧵 In 2020, I nearly died from mysterious industrial chemical exposure at my apartment. Later, in 2023, I discovered my employer was dumping toxic waste into the apartment windows from their Skunkworks semiconductor fab next-door. I tipped off the US EPA, who sent their env cops to raid Apple's plant in Aug of 2023. The US EPA finally released the report of their enforcement inspections & sent me a copy on Friday. 💀 ⬇️

@mcc sorry, what? Slack never promised that it'll hold locked assets forever.

That said, it's crazy to assume otherwise? 🤔

Oh my, my touch typing has deteriorated so much since my keyboard-only days!
