@thedarktangent I'm originally from North-Eastern Europe, so my country **is** the $$, which may change hands as far as "the players" are concerned.

I have morals and an utmost value of freedom, as well as an immense gratitude for everyone who fought for freedom in and those in the West who chose to hear us in the late 80s and early 90s—note the precision of my phrase, choosing to not see and hear our struggle was but a choice in the 70s and prior. With the initial consideration—however—even if I didn't have morals and even if I didn't care about the freedom, there would have been only one path for me as a Latvian: fight.

So for me it's not about opportunity at all.

@arichtman @jonn Plenty of examples where you can understand the reasons they are not that good. Lending from an Iterator or a closure for example is not possible for example. Range is not Copy even if bounds are. Bounded Range is even worse...

@jonn I'm consistently impressed by how solid Rust's internal logic is. I'm often frustrated by it but it's never had a bad reason for the Why. Perhaps I'm just not deep enough yet. #RustLang #Rust

Remembering the time I was contracted as a security consultant in 2002-ish to review network security, help with documention, and to harden company systems, when I was mansplained about... (wait for it)... security.

So I was sitting at my desk writing documentation in the very open office, when one of the programmers, I guess trying to brag or impress me, sits on the edge of my desk and says, "So, you know, I'm a hacker."

Me, who is loves all things hacking and security related, replies, "Really? That's awesome!"

Him: "Yeah, so a computer hacker is someone who can [blah blah] and ..."

I quickly discover that he has zero clue I am the solo security consultant working at the place, and that I'm an actual hacker.

Me (thinking to myself): Okay, well everyone starts somewhere, and it looks like he the caught the hacker bug— Wait, is he... now explaining what a network is to me?

@SeaFury with the parrot I was hanging out with, we would shake hands sometimes. It's so nice that yours is a rescue. I only ever rescued a hedgehog and released them in a couple of weeks back to the forest, when they were healthy enough to function on their own. I was both happy and extremely sad to see the hedgehog burrow into a pile of autumn leaves!

I want to be rich enough some day to live in a flat where I can afford to have an adopted parrot.

You must be crazy to work at an early startup. The pressures, uncertainty, and risks don't work out for most.

When I talk to potential hires for Omnigres' core engineering, I overindex on the signs of such craziness.

Ultimately, being crazy is a job requirement for us.

This means we have a smaller pool of talent, but the hope is that we are not doing a disservice to people who may not be the right fit for the time being. It's better to build relationships and hire them later.

@eniko that's smart! I like it. It's kind of like the skeleton fight in where there's a strat of taking enough damage for the skeleton to get bored. I solved it myself using 1 fight and a bunch of consumables, proud of it. It felt so close. Ahhh. Undertale is so good :3
